Places to see and things to do:

Tombs Of The Kings
The site contains a set of well-preserved underground tombs and chambers used by residents of Nea Paphos from the 3rd century BC to the 3rd century AD, during the Hellenistic and Roman periods. The seven excavated tombs are scattered over a wide area and all are accessible to the public.

The tombs are unique in Cyprus due to the peristyle court structure, which was influenced by Egyptian architecture. The ancient Egyptians believed that tombs for the dead should resemble houses for the living, and this tradition is reflected in the Paphos tombs. You should allow two hours for visiting the site.

Paphos Mosaics
The mesmerizing collection of intricate and colorful mosaics in the southern sector of the archaeological site, immediately south of the Agora, is a pleasure to discover. Found by accident during leveling operations in 1962, these exquisite mosaics decorated the extensive floor area of a large, wealthy residence from the Roman period. The mosaics are regarded as one of the best places to see in Cyprus.

Fort Of Paphos
A small and empty fort guards the harbour entrance and is entered by a little stone bridge over a moat. Most visitors climb the fort for a good view of the harbour from its roof. The fort also serves as an event venue during the Paphos Aphrodite Festival.

Agia Solomoni & the Christian Catacomb
A fairly nondescript tomb complex just off Leoforos, Apostolou Pavlou is the burial site of the Seven Machabee Brothers who were martyred around 174 BC, during the time of Antiochus IV Epiphanes. The tomb was used as a church in the 12th century, as shown by the still visible frescoes.

Agios Lambrianos Rock-Cut Tomb
A couple of enormous underground caverns most likely dating from the early Hellenistic period. These are also burial chambers associated with the saints Lambrianos and Misitikos. The interiors of the tombsdisplay frescoes that indicate they were used as a Christian place of worship.

Hrysopolitissa & St Pauls Pillar
Fairly extensive site which is still being excavated. This was once home to one of Paphos largest religious structures. The single pillar at the far end is where St Paul was bound and given 39 lashes in punishment for preaching christianity.

Agia Paraskevi
One of the loveliest churches in the Paphos area is the six-domed Byzantine church of Agia Paraskevi in Geroskipou, east of Paphos. Most of the surviving frescoes date back to the 15th Century but many, restored in the 1970s, are covered at present and cannot be seen.

Palaia Paphos (old Paphos)/Kouklia
A large area which contains the Sanctury of Aphrodite. At the entrance is a restored Lusignan Manor (La Covocle) with substantial and impressive Turkish additions. In its main hall is a museum with exhibits focusing on the history of the excavation of the area and the fragments of mosaic that have been found. Its prize possession is a large black stone that stood as a manifestation of Aphrodite and was worshipped by the pilgrims. The hall itself is worth a close look as it is one of the best examples of 13th-centry Gothic architecture on the island. There is a museum on Roman remains, the ruins of Roman houses and a wing with original walls still standing, to see here as well.

Archaeological Museum
A small museum housing a varied and extensive collection of artefacts from eras ranging from the Neolithic period to the 18th Century, most of the finds are from local excavations. Displayed in four rooms, the collection includes jars, pottery and glass-ware, tools, coins and coin moulds. Hellenistic and Roman artefacts include a limestone grave stele, marble statuettes, votive objects, pottery from the house of Dionysus and terracotta figures of dogs and stags. The museum is located about 1km from the centre of Ktima.

Byzantine Museum
Noteworthy museum south of the main square in Ktima. It is worth visiting for its collection of icons from the 13th and 14th centuries, ecclesiastical vestments, vessels, documents and copies of scriptures.

Ethnographical Museum
Also in Ktima, privately owned and maintained by George Eliades, a local professor, it houses a varied collection of coins, traditional costumes, kitchen utensils, Chalcolithic axe heads, amphorae and other assorted items. The garden holds more of the same including a Hellenisitic rock-cut tomb.

Chrysorrogiatissa Monastery
This monastery is impressive mainly because of its setting at a height of 610m (2,000ft). Founded by a monk who was later suspected by the Turks of political activity, the buildings were burned down. Much enterprise has been shown by the current abbot who reopened an old winery. The monks now produce and sell some excellent wines.

Agios Neofytos Monastery
The 16th century monastery church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and contains a large number of paintings that depict her early life. Neofytoss bones are also kept there in a wooden sarcophagus, with his skull in a silver reliquary, which the devoted queue up to kiss.

Odeon
Partially restored theatre which leaves a good impression of how it once would have been. It was built in the 2nd century AD during the Roman period and has since been through an Earthquake. There are some performances held here during the summer.

Paphos Bird Park www.pafosbirdpark.com
Great for children, the park houses birds, giraffes, antelopes, deer, gazelles, moufflon, reptiles, giant tortoises, emus, ostriches, small goats and so on. Restaurant, snack bar and childrens play ground are also here.

Paphos Aquarium
An array of 72 colourful fish can be seen in tanks that have been carefully designed to recreate the natural environment of the species that inhabit them. Aquarium home to range of sea and freshwater fresh fish, including sea horses, sharks and crocodiles.

Paphos Aphrodite Water Park
With the largest number of facilities and attractions in Cyprus, the biggest family rafting ride in Europe and virtually guaranteed sunshine for every one of its opening days, it's no wonder that Paphos Aphrodite Water Park attracts over 100,000 visitors each year.
